On a shivery October 29, 2024 work morning at the still unheated gatehouse, renovation crew member Ed Ranzoni served apple pie to celebrate his 85th birthday. During the crew's break, his wife treated him and his co-workers to Cortland pie straight from the oven, cheddar, and steaming coffee. A sweet and story-filled time was reportedly had by all. The two-tiered pie carrier was made by crew member Leo Grunwald.
